BALINGIAN, 3 Oct: Owners of the Gem Spectrum House (RSP) have an opportunity to expand their residences in the future through additional designs that have been prepared and get approval from local authorities.
Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that the approach allows homeowners to add housing space according to their family's needs and ability.
"The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) provides another design if they have the means to grow houses.
"There is a design that has been prepared and this has already been approved by the local authorities, which means pre-approved design", he said at a press conference after the Key Delivery Meeting of the Project Home Spectrum Jewelry at SPK Balingian Division Phase 1 today.
According to Abang Johari, the concept is among the improvements in RSP development to ensure that the houses provided not only meet current needs but can also be adapted to family development.
He said that the houses being built in Balingian also have different designs compared to SPK projects in other areas, taking into account suitability and needs of the locals.
"I am grateful that a housing project in Balingian has been completed and the houses here are slightly different from the other SPKs because of our mix of buildings which are very creative in terms of design", he said.
Brother Johari said that SPK development has also changed the approach from just providing land lots to developing a complete housing area with basic facilities.
"In the past we only provided lots, but this time we developed this area by providing infrastructure related to utilities, after which we built houses", he said.
He said the approach allows people to enjoy more complete housing facilities in a more organised environment.
He said that the positive reception of the people towards the project also opened up space for the government to consider further development in future.
The RSP SPK Balingian Phase 1 project involved 22 recipients who received their house keys at the event.
The Sarawak government also provided financing facilities to help people own the houses, with house prices set at RM150,000 against gross costs including land estimated at around RM300,000.
Through this approach, the government will bear part of the development costs, while the applicants will also be given deposit assistance of RM10,000 and the remaining RM140,000 can be financed through the Pearl Mortgage.
The housing development approach not only focuses on homeownership, but also provides space for homes to grow in line with the needs of families and community growth in Balingian. - TVS
