Centre to be upgraded if S’wak hosts wushu in SEA Games

KUCHING (Aug 12): The new Sarawak Wushu Training Centre at the Sarawak Sports Complex, Petra Jaya, will be further upgraded to serve as a competition venue for the 2027 SEA Games.

“With Sarawak expected to be co-host for SEA Games 2027 in Malaysia, we have applied to KBS for wushu to be one of the events to be held in Sarawak.

“To host regional events such SEA Games, we need to further upgrade facilities in this centre such as the central air-conditioning system which will cost a few million ringgit to install,” Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah told reporters after officiating the soft opening of the Sarawak Wushu Training Centre.

“Sarawak will be hosting 18 events and we have been told to state which are the sports that we want to host. There are a few sports which has the support of some sponsors and maybe they want certain sports to be held in Kuala Lumpur,” he added.

Stating Sarawak’s keenness to co-host SEA Games, Abdul Karim said he had met sponsors and KBS in Kuala Lumpur.

Also present were Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Gerald Rentap Jabu.
