Chow told to table bill on equal allocations for constituencies in Penang

Loke said a Constituency Development Fund (CDF) law would ensure fair, equal treatment for assemblymen in Penang, regardless of political affiliation.

“This move is to ensure that equal allocation of constituency development funds can be guaranteed by law,” he said in a statement.

Loke said the party’s central executive committee (CEC) believed the same principle should be extended to the federal level and implemented by all state governments across the country.

“CDF should be given equally, regardless of the political background of the elected representatives.”

Last month, Chow said he would wait for a decision by DAP’s leadership on enacting a law guaranteeing equal CDF following a call by a civil society group.

Currently, the Penang government sets aside an annual allocation of RM60,000 for each opposition assemblyman in the state, while government assemblymen receive an annual constituency allocation of RM500,000.

Loke went on to say that the CEC also decided that bills on capping the prime minister’s term and the separation of powers between the attorney-general and the public prosecutor should be tabled and decided in Parliament during the October sitting.

Additionally, the CEC discussed preparations for both the Melaka and Sarawak elections.

“DAP will make the necessary preparations to defend currently held seats, as well as identify other potential seats to contest.”
