MIRI (Nov 4): Kieran Chia Yuen Soong of SJKC Chung Hua Miri and Ong Chi Hui of SMK Chung Hua Miri emerged winners of the state-level ‘English Book Review Competition’.

The awards were presented at the ‘Digital Education Excellence Awards (AKPD) 2024’, an annual event organised by the Education Department (JPN) of Sarawak, here recently.

Competing against their counterparts from schools across Sarawak, the two young literary enthusiasts from Chung Hua Miri schools showcased their exceptional skills in reviewing English books via video presentations, earning themselves the top spot in their categories.

“Both of them impressed the judges with their insightful interpretations, clear articulation, and original perspectives on their chosen books,” said JPN Sarawak in a press release.

It added that they both had also taken part in the earlier ‘Karnival eMas 5.0’ (STEM Carnival), where Kieran emerged the first runner-up in the state-level English story-telling competition for the primary school category.

Chi Hui and her teammates, on the other hand, placed second in the district-level mini documentary competition for the secondary school category.

Launched last year, the AKPD meant to support the Education Ministry-JPN initiative towards realising the ‘Digital Education Policy’, said the department.

“It serves as a platform to foster a culture of digital education among students, teachers, schools, and district education offices,” it added.
