MIRI (March 16): Close cooperation between parents and schools is crucial for creating a conducive learning environment and ensuring the holistic development of students, said Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin.
“The success of a school does not depend solely on the efforts of teachers, but the support and active involvement of parents.
“Strong cooperation, good communication and mutual respect between parents and teachers are key to the success of a school,” he said when officiating the SK St Joseph Miri Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) annual general meeting (AGM) last Saturday.
He said the PTA plays an important role as the bridge between parents and the school, as well as a strategic partner in supporting the school’s various programmes and initiatives.
“Such cooperation helps create a more conducive learning environment, and supports the overall development of students. We do not want to produce students who excel academically, but also individuals who are balanced in terms of physical, emotional, spiritual and intellectual development.”
He added that any issues or challenges between parents and the school should be addressed through open discussion, mutual understanding, and a spirit of consensus for the common good.
Lee also encouraged parents to continue supporting programmes organised by the school, whether through moral support or contributions they are able to provide.
He added the PTA could also play an important role in assisting the school in organising and financing the participation of students in competitions at higher levels.
“Support should not only focus on academic achievements, but also on sports, co-curricular activities, and other programmes that can help build students’ confidence and potential,” he said.
During the event, Lee also presented a RM10,000 allocation for the school to carry out its annual activities.
Also present were SK St Joseph Miri headmaster Henry Edward Tarang and PTA chairman Goh Ser Seng.
