SIBU (Oct 27): Participation in co-curricular activities is important to cultivate leadership qualities and build self-confidence among students.
In stating this, Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) councillor Kevin Lau said that while the development of communication technology creates conveniences, the importance of co-curricular activities should not be neglected.
“The development of communication technology in this era provides us with the convenience in obtaining information quickly, and when used wisely, it can broaden our knowledge.
“However, I believe it is equally important to engage in co-curricular activities where a person is given the opportunity to cultivate leadership qualities and build confidence to realise their potential,” he said at SMK Bandar Sibu’s Co-Curricular Day here yesterday, representing Temenggong Dato Vincent Lau.
Kevin also believed that co-curricular activities give students the opportunity to build closer relationships with their peers, which is important in overcoming all challenges through a combination of strengths.
Meanwhile, SMK Bandar Sibu principal Lee Khung Kion in his speech stated that the Co-Curricular Day aimed at encouraging students to be active in activities outside the classroom and understand the importance of such activities.
The event also saw Kevin presenting a trophy and a certificate of excellence to Joash Lim for his outstanding achievement in co-curricular activities.
