KUCHING (Jan 25): The seemingly endless downpours of rain that occurred since late last night prompted the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) to monitor areas at risk of flooding here.

In an update, Bomba said a team from Padungan fire station had monitored Kampung Kudei Lama, Kampung Bintangor, Jalan Mendu and Padang Merdeka.

“Water levels rose slightly, and there were spillages from the drainage system due to rain – however the situation is still under control.

“The river water level is high tide but remains at the normal level as the barrage is still closed,” Bomba said.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) forecast heavy downpours and thunderstorms in Kuching, Serian, Samarahan from 4am until 1pm today.

Other areas also affected include Mukah (Tanjung Manis, Daro, Matu and Dalat) and Miri (Miri).
