KUCHING: Datuk Wee Hong Seng is unhappy with some people who criticised various projects carried out by the Kuching South City Council (MBKS), particularly the upgrading projects and wet market at the Bintawa Hawker Centre.
Without mentioning the individual or individuals concerned, the MBKS Mayor made it clear that the funding for the upgrading project for Bintawa Hawker Centre might be taking some time for the approval.
“As a MBKS Mayor, one thing I want to make it very clear is that we understand the situation happening in our properties.
“The grant for the project is being approved by the federal government, and the construction has already begun,” he said.
He said this in a press conference during the project site visit at Bintawa hawker centre here on Thursday (August 15).
“Also, working on getting this project constructed takes time, and that is why for us, we plan way ahead.
“We have to deal with quite a number of people, especially the contractors and who are the most suitable ones to be given the tender project.
“At the beginning of this month, I personally came down with my staff and councillors to talk to the hawkers here and explained to them the situation concerning the project,” he added.
He then stated that the project went on based on what MBKS had planned earlier this year.
“When we have funding to do more repairs in the future, at the very least, the hawkers do not have to close their shop because they can serve the customers after the construction is completed,” he added.
