ADVERTISE HERE
KUCHING (July 11): A woman and her husband were each placed on a RM500 bond to keep the peace for six months by the Magistrates’ Court here today for fighting with each other in a public place.
Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan imposed the order on Norini Abas and Mohd Hafiz Najmi Ambrose Abdullah under Section 67 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
The couple committed the offence at an eatery in Kampung Sadir, Puncak Borneo near here at around 7.50pm on July 1, 2024.
Based on the facts of the case, Norini confronted her husband after discovering him with another woman at the eatery.
She grabbed a broomstick and struck him on the leg, and questioned why he was with the other woman as she had been led to believe the two no longer kept in touch with each other.
When Norini tried to confront the other woman, Mohd Hafiz grabbed hold of her from behind but she managed to break free by biting his hand.
This prompted Mohd Hafiz to slap his wife, punch her in the stomach twice, and choke her. He then lifted her up and slammed her onto the floor of the eatery.
Fearing for her safety, Norini fled to a police station and filed a police report.
Prosecuting was Insp Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang, while the couple was not represented by legal counsel.
