KUCHING (July 11): A crocodile was found snared on a fishing hook in a river at Kampung Nat, Sebuyau today.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the hook was one of several set by a villager on Wednesday, with the reptile believed to have been hooked by its tail.

“A team from the Simunjan fire station was dispatched at 12.30pm to the location, about 60km away, to provide assistance to Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) personnel.

“Bomba personnel monitored the situation to ensure the safety of the villagers, with the operation to remove the crocodile left to the SFC,” it said in a statement.

It added that the crocodile’s size could not be determined as the reptile did not surface.

The Borneo Post has contacted SFC for further details, and is awaiting a response.
