SIBU (July 10): The redevelopment plan to restructure and revitalise Bukit Assek is to establish a new economic chapter for and attract talents to Sibu, said Datuk Michael Tiang.

In this regard, the Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government said he welcomes discussions with individuals from all backgrounds regarding the future of Sibu.

“Sibu will continue to progress but its residents must take the initiative themselves instead of waiting for others to command them.

“We need to communicate and express our ideas to the Premier, ensuring the state government understands our needs,” he said during a dialogue session with Sibu Foochow Association on Monday night.

He added that the Bukit Assek Redevelopment Plan was initiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

The Pelawan assemblyman, said he had recently met with various organisations to discuss the future of their organisations and how it will assist in helping Sibu thrive.

During the meeting with Sibu Foochow Association, Tiang announced an allocation of RM10,000 and promised another RM50,000 next year.

In addition, he said he will fund the installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at Sibu Foochow Park in Jalan Gambir.
