Deputy minister sponsors Raya festive packs for POKUFM members

MIRI (March 15): The Persatuan Orang Kurang Upaya Fizikal Miri (POKUFM) received 25 Hari Raya Aidilfitri aid packs sponsored by Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting and Tong Seng Huat Rice Trading Sdn Bhd.

Councillor Leslie Lau, who represented Ting at the presentation event at POKUFM’s centre in Piasau Camp here on Saturday, said the core objective was to let the underprivileged individuals know that “there are people who care about them”.

In a message delivered via video call, Ting hoped the assistance would bring much joy to the recipients and help alleviate their burden during this festive season.

“Our appreciation goes to the sponsors and concerned individuals whose support and cooperation have enabled the programme to be carried out smoothly, reflecting the spirit of compassion within the community,” said the Piasau assemblyman.

Each recipient received a 5kg packet of white rice sponsored by Tong Seng Huat, along with Ting’s personal contributions comprising sugar, cooking oil, a packet of biscuits and several other essential items.

Meanwhile, POKUFM secretary Abdul Aziz in expressing his appreciation to the donors and companies for their generous contributions, regarded the assistance as being more than just the provision of practical help to the members.

He also thanked Ting for his continuous support, including helping to realise the construction of a roofed hall outside the association building in 2023.

“The expanded hall now allows the association to hold more activities,” said Abdul Aziz.
