KUCHING, Oct 30: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas has directed Sarawak’s Public Works Department (JKR) to urgently assess a sinkhole that recently appeared near the entrance of a shopping mall on Jalan Tun Jugah.
Uggah expects a comprehensive report from JKR within two days, detailing the sinkhole’s extent and possible causes.
“We need a thorough investigation, not only to address this hole but to prevent similar incidents in other areas.”
Speaking to reporters after the UNIFOR Complex Occupation Permit handover ceremony, Uggah, who also serves as the Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, emphasised the importance of rectifying the sinkhole promptly.
He noted, however, that sealing the hole is a temporary measure, stressing the need for a deeper investigation to understand the underlying issues.
The Deputy Premier has directed JKR to expedite both the assessment and any necessary preventive measures to ensure public safety. — DayakDaily
