KUALA LUMPUR, 6 Oct: Malaysia offers official assistance to Indonesia to extinguish forest and land fires in the affected areas of Kalimantan, including through a water-bombing operation.
Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Arthur Joseph Kurup said the offer was made on 9 September.
He said the offer was made after consultations with the Environment Minister of Indonesia via phone call on 24 August 2026 to expedite firefighting efforts in affected areas.
"Malaysia has submitted an official aid offer on 9 September 2026 which includes aerial deactivation operations through water bombing, amphibious aircraft support as well as cloud edging operations", he said in the Dewan Rakyat today.
He said that when answering Grandpa Ir's question. Yusuf Abd. Wahab (Gabungan Parti Sarawak -Tanjong Manis) who wanted to know the steps taken by the ministry in addressing cross-border dust issues, especially those affecting Sarawak, including diplomatic or legal action to address the issue.
Arthur in, meanwhile, said the Indonesian Government agreed to accept Malaysia's offer of aid on 18 September 2026 during a meeting of the Deputy Prime Minister with the President of Indonesia.
He said coordinating aid delivery is now being carried out by both countries through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. -TVS
