TEBEDU, Oct 6: Three agricultural road construction and upgrading projects under the Rural Transformation Project (RTP) in the Tebedu constituency have been fully completed at a total cost of RM450,000.
According to a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) report, the projects involved agricultural roads in Kampung Pichin, Kampung Jenan, and Kampung Payau Burus, which have now been handed over to the local communities through their respective community chiefs.
Handover ceremonies for the completed project sites and project documents from the contractors to the community chiefs were held at all three locations today, witnessed by Tebedu assemblyman Dr Simon Sinang Bada and representatives from the Serian Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID).
According to Dr Simon, agricultural roads are important for moving farmers and smallholders to agricultural areas and for transporting produce from farms and plantations.
“Agricultural roads not only provide better connectivity but also help smallholders and farmers reduce the difficulties involved in transporting their agricultural produce,” he said.
He said similar projects would continue to receive attention to improve basic infrastructure needed by rural communities, adding that better facilities in agricultural areas could also help landowners and farmers increase productivity and support household incomes. — DayakDaily
