KUCHING: Do you have any children’s books and soft toys that you would like to donate to the community in the rural areas?

If you do, drop them off at the collection corner in La Promenade Mall, Kota Samarahan or Plaza Merdeka.

This part of the annual donation campaign organised by DayakDaily together with Pertubuhan Wartawan Bebas Kuching (Pewarta), and Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak) to collect children’s books and soft toys for those living in rural areas.

DayakDaily in an article stated that the initiative titled ‘Bless Rural Children with Your Books & Soft Toys’, will transport the donations to Long Latei in Ulu Baram, where it will be presented to Telang Usan assemblyman Datuk Dennis Ngau in mid-March next year, coinciding with DayakDaily’s annual D’Drift trip.

“The public can drop off their donations at the collection corner in La Promenade Mall from Jan 9 to 31,” it said.

Due to the overwhelming responses, it said that an additional corner will be set up at Plaza Merdeka from Feb 1 to 29 for the public to drop off their donations.

“Additionally, donations can also be dropped off at DayakDaily’s office in TT3 Plaza during office hours until February 29 using the provided dropbox at the stairway.

“For the safety and quality of donated soft toys, ensure they are complete, free from stains or smells, and thoroughly cleaned,” it said.

DayakDaily said that the children’s books suitable for ages up to 18, including middle-grade novels, graphic novels, unused coloring books, and educational booklets, are all welcome.

In 2022, DayakDaily launched its inaugural second-hand book collection campaign, delivering over 1,000 books to SK Lusong Laku for Penan children.

A year later, in 2023, DayakDaily presented 1,000 storybooks and two large bags of soft toys to the Orang Ulu community in Ulu Belaga.
