DOSH Sarawak said initial findings revealed that the victim was not an employee of the subcontractor involved in the project.
KUCHING (March 8): The Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) Sarawak has issued six notices of prohibition (NOP) to a subcontractor following a fatal accident at a school construction site in Simunjan late last month.
The incident, which occurred at 1.40pm on Feb 27, claimed the life of a 67-year-old local man.
“In response to the safety failures, DOSH Sarawak has issued six NOPs, effectively halting all relevant site operations until appropriate safety control measures are fully implemented.
“The case is being investigated under the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) 1994 (Act 514),” DOSH Sarawak said in a statement.
DOSH Sarawak said initial findings revealed that the victim was not an employee of the subcontractor involved in the project. Based on site inspections, the incident occurred during an operation to move concrete blocks from an I-beam structure to the ground using a lorry loader crane.
“The victim’s companion reportedly heard a cry for help before discovering the victim trapped under one of the concrete blocks on the I-beam structure.
“Medical personnel from Simunjan Hospital arrived on the scene and confirmed the victim’s death. The body has since been handed over to the police for further investigation,” DOSH Sarawak added.
