KUCHING, March 11: A drainage upgrading project costing RM200,000 to address long-standing drainage issues affecting residents along Jalan Semeba, particularly during periods of heavy rain, has been completed under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) 2025.

Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap visited Jalan Semeba on Monday (March 9) to witness the final completion of the project, which involved upgrading and improving drainage infrastructure along sections of the road near the Chin Kiun Thai Ti Temple and Thai Pak Kung Temple.

The works were aimed at resolving drainage problems that have long affected residents in the area, especially during heavy rainfall.

Yap said the completion of the project reflects the Sarawak government’s continued commitment to resolving grassroots issues through practical and targeted development initiatives.

“Flooding and drainage problems are among the issues most frequently raised by residents. While they may appear small compared to large-scale development projects, these are the issues that affect the daily lives and safety of our communities,” he said in a statement yesterday (March 10).

He emphasised that addressing such concerns requires consistent follow-up and a structured implementation process, beginning with identifying the problem, securing funding through the RTP allocation, appointing contractors transparently and ensuring proper monitoring until completion.

“This drainage upgrading project is part of a broader effort to progressively improve infrastructure in Kota Sentosa. We are addressing issues one by one, phase by phase, until the problems faced by residents are properly resolved,” he added.

Yap also expressed appreciation to officers from the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP), contractors and relevant agencies for ensuring the project was carried out smoothly and completed according to specifications.

He reaffirmed his commitment to continue working closely with local authorities and residents to identify priority issues and deliver practical solutions that improve the quality of life for the people of Kota Sentosa.

“As the elected representative for Kota Sentosa, I will continue to focus on practical, action-oriented solutions to ensure that development reaches the ground and directly benefits the people,” he said. — DayakDaily
