MIRI, Sept. 12: Legitimate driving licenses can open up more employment opportunities and help people generate income, especially those with low incomes facing financial constraints.

Deputy Minister of Transport, Datuk Hasbi Habibollah said the cost of getting a driver's license has caused some people to postpone their wishes, thus limiting their opportunities in the job market.

He said the government through the Ministry of Transport and Department of Road Transport (JPJ) is working to ensure that opportunities for getting a driver's license are also enjoyed by rural and rural communities at minimum cost.

"By having a valid driver's license, one has a broader chance of getting a job, earning income, helping families and building a better life.

"We do not want young people to be excluded from employment opportunities simply because they do not have a driver's license", he said.

He said this while addressing the inaugural closing ceremony of Parliamentary MyLesen Assistance Program P.218 Sibuti, at Bekenu Community Hall, near here today.

According to him, since the MyLesen program was introduced in Sarawak in 2024, a total of 11,936 participants have obtained driver's licenses, increasing to 12,593 participants by 2025.

He said the increase in participation showed a need for the initiative, especially among rural and rural communities. - TVS
