MIRI, 3 Oct: A total of 95 individuals and 72 vehicles were inspected in Special Operation Drunk Op conducted by the Investigation and Traffic Enforcement Division, Metropolitan Police Headquarters (IPD) Miri, early this morning.
Miri Regional Police Chief, ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the operation was conducted from 11pm to 3am along Miri-Airport Road.
According to him, the 95 individuals examined consisted of 80 men and 15 women.
"The results of the inspection revealed various traffic offences including driving without a license, exos modification, expiry road tax and not displaying the letter 'P' on the vehicle.
"In the same operation, a 59-year-old local woman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence", she said in a statement today.
He said the suspect was taken to Miri Traffic Police Headquarters for further action after a screening test using Screening Device 2 (SD2) found alcohol content in his body.
"Samples of the suspect's blood were also collected at Miri Forensic Hospital to assist with the investigation.
"The case is being investigated under Section 45A (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987", he said.
Mohd Farhan said his party would not compromise on individuals driving or riding under the influence of alcohol.
He also advised the public to always abide by road laws to ensure the safety of all road users. -TVS
