SIBU (Sept 5): A fire early this morning damaged two double-storey terraced houses at Jalan Layang Layang here.
Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Zone 4 chief Andy Alie said a distress call was received at 6.24am and 22 firefighters from Sibu Central and Sungai Merah fire stations were sent to the scene about 2km away.
“The fire involved two units of two-storey terraced houses with a permanent structure of 40×40 square feet, which were used as rental rooms, and 80 per cent of them were burnt,” he said in a statement.
Andy said firefighters used a 200-foot hose and two water nozzles from fire hydrants and machinery to fight the fire.
He also reported operational difficulties at the location due to low water pressure.
The fire was brought under control at 7.35am.
The cause of the fire and value of losses have yet to be determined.
