Firefighters from Sibu Fire and Rescue Department (BBP Sibu Sentral) and BBP Sungai Merah were quickly despatched to the scene after receiving a distress call at 6.24am.

The fire affected two blocks of permanent structures, each containing 18 rental rooms. Block A and Block B were both approximately 40×50 feet in size.

Approximately 80 per cent of the property was engulfed in flames, leaving only nine rooms (four in Block A and five in Block B) undamaged.

Firefighters employed both offensive and defensive firefighting tactics.

BBP Sibu Sentral deployed a 200-foot hose line with three nozzles and a separate line with a small fire hose. BBP Sungai Merah provided additional support, extending a 300-foot hose to access water from a nearby fire hydrant.

The fire was brought under control, and after confirming that the area was safe, the operation concluded at 8.28am.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire and the estimated losses. — DayakDaily
