Early morning fire razes workers’ quarters in Baram, no casualties reported

MIRI (Aug 13): A block of six-unit workers’ quarters at Tinbarap 2 estate in Bakong, Baram was totally destroyed in a fire early today.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) in a statement said they received a call on the incident at 2.30am and firefighters from Marudi fire station were despatched to the scene.

“The journey to the oil palm estate is expected to take be more than one hour,” it added.

Bomba said initial reports indicated that the fire involved only one block of six-unit workers’ quarters, adding that a pickup truck was also destroyed.

Bomba said 11 people, comprising seven Malaysians and four Indonesians were living in the units.
