LUNDU: Sarawak’s men beach volleyball teams are facing a tough competition in the ongoing Malaysia Games (SUKMA) in their respective group matches.

Both teams showed strong determination and admirable skill despite facing losses in their respective opening matches yesterday.

In the first match of the day that took place at Union YES Retreat & Training Centre here, Sarawak A went head-to-head against Johor A but were ultimately defeated in straight sets although Sarawak A put up a valiant effort.

The first set saw Johor A securing a 21-15 victory, followed by a 21-16 win in the second set, giving Johor A a 2-0 overall win.

Sarawak B, however, demonstrated remarkable resilience in their match against Pulau Pinang A.

The match was a nail-biter, with both teams fiercely contesting each point. Sarawak B narrowly edged out Pulau Pinang A in the first set with a 22-20 win.

Pulau Pinang A bounced back in the second set, taking it 22-20, which forced the match into a decisive third set.

Despite their best efforts, Sarawak B couldn’t maintain their momentum, falling 7-15 in the third set. The final scoreline stood at 2-1 in favour of Pulau Pinang A.

Sarawak B faces off against Penang A.

After their respective losses to Johor A and Pulau Pinang A, Sarawak A and B will now encounter the added challenge of having a crucial draw today (Aug 18).

The draw will determine their opponents in the upcoming knockout round, scheduled to be held on Monday.

Viennly Jerical Vincent Jerry and Valentherry Surau represent Sarawak A, while Sarawak B is represented by Tay Wen Qiang and Alex Moon Ming Kong.
