KUCHING, Aug 18: Sarawakian karateka Eidelweiss Franzel Francey Sami has made history by winning the first-ever gold medal in karate for Sarawak since the event was introduced at the Malaysia Games (Sukma) in 2000.

According to a TVS news report, Eidelweiss achieved this milestone in the women’s individual kumite category for 68 kilogrammes (kg).

She thrilled hundreds of Sarawak supporters who packed Dewan Institut Kemahiran Belia Negara Miri in Miri after defeating her opponent from Terengganu, Mirza Amirah Syuhada, with a score of 8-6.

As of press time, Sarawak is currently sitting atop the Sukma 2024 medal tally, with a total of 43 medals—18 gold, 13 silver, and 12 bronze. — DayakDaily
