KUCHING (March 15): An elderly woman was killed in a road accident along the Sri Aman–Betong stretch of the Pan Borneo Highway on Sunday.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), in a statement, said it received an emergency call regarding a single-vehicle accident at 4.44pm.
“Upon Bomba’s arrival at the scene, it was found that a single-vehicle accident had occurred involving a Proton Wira carrying six occupants consisting of two men and four women, which had skidded and crashed into the road divider.
“Five of them sustained minor injuries, while an elderly woman who was seated at the rear was confirmed dead at the scene by personnel from the Health Ministry,” the statement read.
Bomba added that none of the victims were trapped, and the rescue operation only involved forcing open the rear car door, which had jammed, using rescue tools.
The deceased was then handed over to the police for further action, while those injured were taken to hospital by ambulances from the ministry and the Civil Defence Force.
