KUCHING, Oct 5: EPR Mobilus GR JV Sdn Bhd (EMGJV) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and presented a letter of intent (LOI) to collaborate with local institutions and companies, ensuring local talent and expertise are integrated into the assembly of Kuching’s Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) system.
According to a press release, EMGJV has partnered with higher learning and technical training centres, including Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak, and Sarawak Skills.
In addition, 13 private local and Bumiputera companies were involved in the exchange of MoUs and receipt of LOIs.
The event was witnessed by Deputy General Manager of Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) Rakayah Hamdan, and Sarawak Metro chief executive officer Mazli Mustaffa, Mobilus Sdn Bhd chairperson and EMGJV chief executive officer Monica Lai and Chan Chee Kian respectively.
Speaking during the ceremony, Chan the facility represents their commitment to building local capacity.
“I am pleased to announce that we are on track to begin CKD (Completely Knocked Down) manufacturing here by early Q2 of 2025. These developments are a clear testament to our progress and dedication to developing a sustainable, local manufacturing ecosystem.
“Our aim is to go further by developing vendors, strengthening local capacity and creating new market access opportunities. By doing so, we will foster a dynamic local ecosystem that aligns with our long-term goals,” he said. — DayakDaily
