KUCHING, May 6: The scale of fee for engineering is being revised to strengthen the mechanism for determining professional engineering fees with greater clarity, consistency, and alignment to present-day industry expectations, in what is seen as a major update for Malaysia’s engineering sector after nearly three decades.
Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak director Datu Ir Cassidy Morris, who is also chairman of the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) Scale of Fee (SOF) for Engineering Committee, chaired the SOF Committee Meeting at the BEM Office in Kuala Lumpur yesterday (May 5).
According to a statement, the meeting focused on the revision of the scale of fee for engineering, which has not been reviewed since 1998 and is now in its final stage of completion.
Among the key matters discussed was the proposed revision under PK 3.2, referring to the Pekeliling Perbendaharaan Malaysia (PK 3.2) — Kos Perkhidmatan Perunding (Consultant Service Costs), a treasury circular under the Ministry of Finance.
The proposed revision aims to improve the framework for determining professional engineering fees by ensuring greater transparency, consistency, and suitability with current industry demands and practices.
The committee also expressed hope that the revised scale of fee for engineering would be gazetted soon, describing it as a significant milestone for the engineering profession in Malaysia.
The revision is expected to provide a more updated and structured reference for engineering consultancy services in line with evolving industry standards and economic conditions. — DayakDaily
