KUCHING: The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) is currently exploring new investment opportunities in Sarawak.

EPF Chief Executive Officer, Ahmad Zulqarnain Onn, mentioned that Sarawak is now perceived as a state with great potential, especially in the renewable energy sector.

“The purpose of EPF coming here is to learn about Sarawak’s strategy, particularly regarding investment potential in the renewable energy sector, and to understand the new strategies and policies in Sarawak,” he said.

He stated this to reporters after paying a courtesy call to the Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today (Aug 12).

Ahmad Zulqarnain added that Sarawak has various new investment potentials in terms of hydro and solar energy, which require significant investment.

“Sarawak, as a renewable energy hub in Southeast Asia, is very prominent in hydro, solar, and floating solar.

“So, there are many opportunities that will require substantial investment, and from our perspective, we want to extend our hand to explore how we can participate in new investments in Sarawak,” he said.

Later, Abang Johari also received a courtesy call from Shanghai Electric Power, led by its director Wu Lei, and the International Finance Corporation (IFC).
