BINTULU (Dec 24): Drainage upgrading and deepening works at Taman Clean must be expedited as the monsoon season has begun, said Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang.
Pang said the contractor should accelerate the widening of the existing drain from 0.9 metres to 1.2 metres to improve water flow, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.
“A wider drainage system will allow smoother water flow and help reduce the risk of flooding during heavy rain,” he said after inspecting the project site on Monday.
He explained that the project had previously faced delays due to utility relocation issues.
However, following coordination and cooperation among the relevant agencies, all affected utilities have now been successfully relocated, allowing the project to proceed fully.
“Once completed, the upgraded drainage system is expected to significantly increase water flow capacity and reduce the occurrence of flash floods and water ponding in the area,” he said.
Pang also urged the contractor to ensure the works are carried out properly without compromising construction quality.
At the same time, he advised Taman Clean residents to exercise caution when passing through the construction area, acknowledging that some inconvenience may be unavoidable during the implementation period.
“I also want to thank them for their patience and cooperation while the works are ongoing,” he added.
