Experience thrill of sports and nature at upcoming Mulu Eco Challenge

KUCHING (Jan 15): The Mulu Eco Challenge, a new adventure sporting event aimed at promoting sustainable tourism and community engagement, will take place in Mulu this coming March 29.

The event is set to bring together athletes, visitors and the local community through a combination of sports and nature-based activities in one of Sarawak’s most iconic eco-tourism destinations, said the organisers in a press release.

Participants will take part in two main challenges, namely a 12km trail run through Mulu’s rainforest terrain, and a 5km river rafting eco challenge that showcases the area’s pristine river system.

The rafting component is also part of the Borneo Raft Safari series, adding further appeal for adventure sports enthusiasts.

The event offers a total prize money of RM10,000.

Beyond competition, the organisers have placed strong emphasis on community involvement.

Planned activities include ‘Sukan Rakyat’ for local residents and a welcoming dinner for athletes, aimed at fostering interaction, friendship, and cultural exchange between participants and the local community.

Mulu assemblyman Datuk Gerawat Gala said the event is expected to bring multiple benefits to the area and its people.

“This event is good for Mulu. It promotes healthy activities, supports eco-tourism, and brings the community and visitors together,” he said in the release.

According to the organisers, the Mulu Eco Challenge is also designed to support local businesses while creating a positive socioeconomic impact for the community.

At the same time, the event seeks to raise awareness on environmental protection by encouraging responsible and sustainable interaction with Mulu’s natural surroundings.

Registration for the Mulu Eco Challenge is now open and will close on Feb 12, 2026.
