Family of six escapes unhurt as fire razes wooden house in Daro

SIBU (Oct 4): A fire razed a wooden house at Jalan Rumah Datok Wahab, Kampung Tian Matu in Daro today.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the house’s family of six managed to escape unhurt.

Bomba said a distress call was received at around 9.30am and seven firefighters from the Daro fire station were despatched to the scene about 20km away.

“On arrival, the operation commander said the fire involved a non-permanent house, which was 100 per cent burnt,” the department said in a statement.

Firefighters extinguished the fire using water sourced from a nearby river.

After ensuring the situation was under control, the firefighters returned to base at 1.07pm.

The cause of the fire and total value of losses have yet to be ascertained.

Other agencies helping in the operation were the police, Civil Defence Force, People’s Volunteer Corps, Matu District Office, and Sarawak Energy Berhad.
