KUCHING (Feb 7): The reopening of Petronas Kuching Utara is more than the resumption of operations of a petrol station, but a reflection of how local business ecosystems contribute to the state’s economic growth.
This was highlighted by Chief Political Secretary to the Sarawak Premier Dato Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman at the station’s reopening ceremony held in conjunction with its 22nd anniversary at Petronas Kuching Utara here on Saturday.
Fazzrudin, who is also Tupong assemblyman, said every business entity operates within its own ecosystem to ensure it achieves its objectives, particularly profitability.
“In any business, profit is one of the main objectives. Without profit, there is no point in operating.
“To achieve this, the ecosystem must be complete. Good products, good management, capable staff, loyal customers and relevant laws in place to ensure everything runs smoothly,” he said when delivering his speech.
He stressed that when a business prospers, it not only benefits the owner but also creates wider economic spillover effects.
“When the business does well, more goods can be sold, including local products. This creates employment opportunities for our youths and members of the community,” he said.

Fazzrudin noted that profits are generated through the support of customers from the community, forming a cycle that sustains the local economy.
“Every RM10 spent, every RM5 used at Kedai Mesra, every RM20 spent on fuel here has an impact on the development of the state.
“On a small scale, these activities ensure that our state and national economies continue to function and develop steadily,” he said, adding that consistent economic growth is a positive indicator for the future of a region or country.
Fazzrudin expressed confidence that the station would continue to serve not only as a place of business but also as a platform that benefits the surrounding community.
For the record, the Petronas Kuching Utara station was temporarily closed for four months to facilitate upgrading works and asset refurbishment before resuming operations in November last year.
Also present was Petronas Kuching Utara business partner Nur Khatizah Abdullah.
