KUCHING, April 9: The Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) is in the final stages of finalising the sale of the historic Merdeka Palace Hotel to Permodalan Satok Berhad (PSB).
In a TVS news, Felda chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek confirmed that both parties have reached an agreement, but the transaction is still pending approval from senior authorities.
“An agreement has been reached with Permodalan Satok regarding the sale of Merdeka Palace Hotel.
“Alhamdulillah, we have entered the final stage of negotiations and are now awaiting approval from the higher authorities,” he said during a press conference following a courtesy visit to the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, at the Satria Pertiwi Complex today.
Ahmad Shabery stressed that Felda, as an agency under the Prime Minister’s Department, will ensure the sale is conducted transparently and in full compliance with regulations.
“It will be managed responsibly. We do not want a hotel of such historical significance and landmark status in Kuching to end up in the hands of those unsuitable for the needs of the state and the nation,” he added. — DayakDaily
