Fire damages terraced house, destroys two vehicles

MIRI: A fire damaged a terraced house and two vehicles in Lorong Julau 2 here on Saturday morning (Sept 19), according to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department.

The department said it received an emergency call at 11.24 am and arrived at the scene about 12 minutes later, at 11.36 am.

The fire involved a double-storey terraced house measuring approximately 30 by 60 feet. About 60 per cent of the ground floor was estimated to have been affected by the blaze.

Two vehicles were also involved. A Toyota Unser was estimated to have sustained fire damage to about 10 per cent of the vehicle, while another Toyota was reported to have been completely destroyed.

Firefighters from Miri Fire and Rescue Station deployed one 200-foot hose line with two nozzles, supported by an additional first-aid hose line, to contain and extinguish the fire.

Seven firefighters, led by Operations Commander PBK I Hairi Istal, were involved in the operations, using a fire and rescue tender and an emergency medical rescue services vehicle.

The fire department said firefighting operations were still under way as of its latest update.

No information on casualties or the cause of the fire had been provided at the time of the report.

Further details are expected to be released by the authorities as the operations progresses.
