KUCHING (Feb 13): A fire broke out at a cold storage factory construction site at Batu 14 1/2 Jalan Kuching-Serian this afternoon.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) was notified of the incident at 3.33pm.
Personnel from Siburan Fire Station, assisted by teams from Kota Sentosa and Kota Samarahan, were dispatched to the scene.
“The fire involved 15 freezer wall panels, which were stacked at the site for the construction of a new cold storage building. All panels were completely destroyed by the fire.
“No casualties were reported, and the blaze did not spread to any building structures,” the department said in a statement.
Firefighters carried out extinguishing operations using a 300-foot hose line with two nozzles, supported by relay pumping between fire engines.
A forklift was also used to move the burning panels to a safe area to prevent further spread.
The fire was successfully brought under control and fully extinguished, after which all units returned to their stations.
