SARIKEI (Feb 5): A seafood processing factory along Jalan Industri here suffered extensive damage after a fire broke out this morning.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said damage to the main warehouse was estimated at about 70 per cent, while four rooms on the upper floor sustained about 80 per cent damage.

“The fire was brought under control at 9.33am, with no reports of injuries received,” it said in a statement.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Separately, a car was destroyed after it caught fire along Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman in Sibu early today.

Bomba said acting on a call at 6.08am, a team from the Sungai Merah fire station was sent to the location, arriving at 6.21am.

“Firefighters arrived at the scene to discover the vehicle engulfed in flames. The fire was brought under control at 6.29am and fully extinguished at 6.50am,” it said.

No injuries were reported.
