Fireworks display brings curtains down on BCF

SIBU: The Borneo Cultural Festival (BCF) 2024 came to a close on Saturday night (Aug 17) with a spectacular fireworks display.

Also on the closing agenda were performances by foreign cultural troupes from China, Thailand and Bali.
The event themed, “Mystical Borneo”which lasted for 10 days was organised by the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC).

Speaking at the closing ceremony, SMC chairman Clarence Ting paid tribute to the celebration of the rich and diverse heritage of local communities.

“Tonight marks the culmination of a festival that has brought together communities, cultures, and traditions, and I am delighted to be a part of it.

“I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the BCF organising chairman, Mohammed Abdullah Izkandar Roseley and the entire working committee for their dedication and tireless efforts in making this event a grand success.

“A special thank you goes to the Chinese, Malay/Melanau, and Dayak pavilions for their exceptional contributions.”

Ting said their cultural activities, showcases and performances were the cornerstone of the festival, thus truly enriching the experience of everyone present.

He also expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Performing Arts as well as sponsors, for their invaluable contributions which had been instrumental in bringing the festival to life.
In addition, he acknowledged the various government agencies for their cooperation and assistance to the BCF 2024 committee.

To the foreign cultural troupes, as well as all the performers from within Malaysia, he hoped they have had the opportunity to experience the unique cultural tapestry of Sarawak.

“Your performances have been nothing short of spectacular, and we are grateful for the energy and passion you have brought to this event.

“I would also like to commend our local performers from Sibu, whose talent and creativity have been a highlight of the festival,” he added.

Among those present were Senator Robert Lau, Sibu District Police Chief, ACP Zulkipli Suhaili, Sibu Iban paramount chief, Stanley Geramong and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Dudong branch chairman, Datuk Teo Boon Siew.
