KUCHING, Feb 25: The Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak has officially launched the State’s first artificial intelligence (AI)-powered CCTV at the P-Turn on the Pan Borneo Highway in Selangau, marking a strategic move to enhance road safety in high-risk traffic areas.

The launch ceremony was officiated by JKR Sarawak director Datu Ir Cassidy Morris today.

In a post shared on JKR Sarawak social media, he highlighted that the AI CCTV system represents a proactive approach to smart traffic monitoring, improving safety for road users, particularly at P-Turn locations, while also supporting environmental cleanliness monitoring in line with Sarawak’s smart city initiatives.

“The installation of this AI-enabled CCTV allows for more effective traffic monitoring, aiding in accident prevention and enhancing traffic management, especially in high-traffic areas like the Selangau P-Turn.

“Ultimately, it will benefit all road users in the Sibu Division,” he added.

JKR Sarawak affirmed its ongoing commitment to advancing road safety infrastructure through innovative, high-tech solutions for the welfare of the public. — DayakDaily
