SIBU (March 16): The establishment of the first halal hub here represents a key step in strengthening the local economy and providing opportunities to the entrepreneurs to tap into this rapidly-growing global industry.
According to Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee, the initiative reflects the commitment of Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) and the collaborating agencies in supporting the halal sector.
“The halal standards are always associated with cleanliness, safety and quality, values respected globally.
“Moreover, halal products are increasingly acknowledged not only by Muslims, but also by the international community.
“In this regard, the Sibu Halal Hub stands as a significant platform for the local entrepreneurs to grow their halal-based businesses, while promoting local products to a wider market.
“Also, with initiatives like this, we can strengthen public confidence in local products and improve the competitiveness of our entrepreneurs,” said Dr Annuar in his speech, which was delivered by a political secretary to Sarawak Premier, Sayed Azmee Wan Junaidi, at the hub’s lighting-up ceremony in Taman Selera Harmoni here on Saturday evening.
Adding on, Dr Annuar called upon local entrepreneur to make full use of the facility by improving innovation, enhancing product quality, and expanding their networks within the halal sector.
The Nangka assemblyman also highlighted the importance of having close collaboration between the local authorities, government agencies, communities and entrepreneurs, so as to ensure sustainable development of the halal industry here.
Also present were SMC deputy chairman Mohammed Abdullah Izkandar Roseley, together with councillors Jenny Ting, Shirley Ling, Raden Khairulzaman Raden Bustari and Christopher Kelebit Ansa.
