Five evacuated from flooded squatter houses in Bintulu

SIBU (Dec 24): Five victims were evacuated from floodwaters at the Saberkas squatter houses in Kidurong, Bintulu, on Tuesday night.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said in a statement that a distress call was received at about 10.32 pm, prompting the dispatch of three personnel from the Bintulu station to the scene.

“On arrival, the victims were found stranded inside their house,” the statement read.

The team evacuated the victims using an aluminium boat and transported them to safety.

“All the victims have since put up temporarily at their relatives’ homes while waiting for the floodwaters to recede,” Bomba said.

The operation concluded at about 11.51 pm, after which the team returned to base.
