Five Sarawak cooperatives among top 100 nationwide in total revenue contribution

KUCHING (Aug 28): Five Sarawak cooperatives have been recognised in the 2024 Malaysia’s Top 100 Cooperatives Index, contributing RM93.5 million to the total revenue.

They are Koperasi Koperkasa Sarawak Berhad, Koperasi Penanam Sawit Mampan Daerah Bau Berhad, Koperasi Al-Bait Sarawak Berhad, Koperasi Sesco Sarawak Berhad and Koperasi Penanam Sawit Mampan Daerah Tatau Berhad.

“As of December 2023, Sarawak has 1,190 cooperatives with over 313,917 members and total revenue of RM368.97 million,” said a statement from the Ministry of International Trade, Industry, and Investment Sarawak (Mintred) today.

Additionally, Mintred revealed they had held their first Sarawak State Cooperative Advisory Council (MPKN) meeting for 2024 recently, aimed to coordinate the cooperative movement and to gather feedback on recent developments from council members.

The meeting emphasised the need for Sarawak’s cooperative sector to evolve into a competitive and resilient institution to generate higher revenue and contribute to the nation’s economic growth.

MPKN Sarawak comprises 26 members, including 10 representatives from the Federal Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Ministry (Kuskop) agencies, seven from the cooperative movement as well as 10 from federal and state ministries and agencies.
