MUKAH, 3 Oct: Five road sections in the open section have been identified for upgrades involving a total cost of RM591.3 million to improve consumer safety and comfort.
Sarawak's Minister of Women, Children and Community Welfare, Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah said the project was necessary due to the condition of several small, damaged and sloping roads.
"We are aware that there are still some road sections that need improvement, especially small ones, damaged and flooded for the safety and convenience of users", he said speaking at Sarawakku Sayang 2026 Program Open Section here today.
The programme was completed by the inaugural inauguration of Sarawak Premier, Datuk Tinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Among the projects are upgrading of Sungai Nai Road/Gelang Cape, Bruit Island, Daro at a cost of RM293.5 million.
Following are projects upgrading Jalan Oya Bypass and Jalan Oya-Dalat at a cost of RM204.75 million as well as Jalan Kuala Balingian/Sempadan Mukah-Bintulu involving RM3 million.
Two other projects involve the construction of intersection routes at Jalan Mukah/Matadeng and Jalan Mukah/Oya, Dalat District, respectively at a cost of RM45 million.
Fatimah said that the implementation of the project is expected to improve consumer safety as well as provide convenience for residents using the route as a link between areas.
"This effort is also important for strengthening the road infrastructure in Mukah Division, thus supporting the smooth movement of population and local economic activity", he said.
