BINTULU (Jan 17): A total of 240 residents from five longhouses in the Sungai Entajum area in Tatau, who were cut off from the outside world due to flooding, received food aid on Thursday.

The operation involved 23 personnel from various agencies, including the Tatau District Office, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Fire and Rescue Department, the Civil Defence Force, the Welfare Department (JKM), and the Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit (UKPS).

Food supplies were delivered using several assets, including four-wheel-drive vehicles, a PDRM Land Rover and a fire engine.

The five longhouses that received the assistance are Rumah Genta Insul, Rumah Was Janting, Rumah Kennedy Chulo, Rumah Nyalang Nantang, and Rumah Eki Garajie.

Despite access routes to all the longhouses remaining submerged, the food aid mission was successfully carried out, with supplies handed over to the respective headmen or their representatives for distribution to affected residents.

Authorities had given their assurance that they would continue to monitor the situation closely and remain on standby to provide further assistance should the need arise.
