KUCHING (Feb 10): Three foreign nationals were arrested following a failed attempt to escape Immigration Department personnel during an operation in Kampung Rukam, Jalan Lundu-Biawak on Monday.
The department in a Facebook post said the trio—a man and two women—was travelling in a multipurpose vehicle (MPV) when they were flagged down by officers conducting Ops Serkap.
“The driver refused to cooperate and sped off, prompting a chase that ended with the MPV crashing through the gates of SK Holy Name in Kampung Rukam.
“All three were detained on suspicion of violating provisions under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007, as well as the Immigration Act of 1959/63 for lacking valid travel documents,” the department said.
Meanwhile, the department said an Ops Sapu operation conducted here early yesterday resulted in the arrest of three foreign nationals for violating immigration laws.
The operation, which focused on a rental premises within the commercial area of a mall, saw the inspection of 10 individuals, including six locals, to verify their documentation status.
“The three detained foreigners, comprising a man and two women, are being investigated under Regulation 11 of the Immigration Regulations 1963 and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63,” said the department.
