Free admission for Sarawak Open International Dragon and Lion Dance Cup in Kuching this weekend

KUCHING (Oct 25): Dragon and lion dance enthusiasts are in for an exciting show this weekend when the Sarawak Open International Dragon and Lion Dance Cup 2024 kicks off at Stadium Perpaduan in Petra Jaya here.

Persatuan Seni Mempertahankan Diri Cina Bahagian Kuching president Chester Lim said admission is free and all are welcomed to watch the teams compete.

“The competition has attracted some 45 teams from Peninsular Malaysia, Sarawak and Sabah, Brunei, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, and China,” he said in a statement.

Lim, who is also event organising chairman, said the competition is supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak.

Meanwhile, association advisor Kapitan Tan Gun Kee said the competition will commence on Saturday with the Northern Lion Dance category from 11am to noon.

“The High Pole Southern Lion Dance competition begins at 1pm and is expected to end around 4.30pm.

“After the opening ceremony in the evening, the Luminous Dragon Dance will commence at 6.45pm and end around 8.15pm,” he said.

On Sunday, Tan said the Traditional Southern Lion Dance competition will start at 9am and end at about 7pm, followed by the prize-giving and closing ceremonies.
