KUCHING, Mar 8: The attendance of about 1,700 members at the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Meluan triennial general assembly (TGA) today reflects the party’s grassroots organisation and continued support for Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).
Speaking to reporters after attending the assembly held at the Julau Sports Complex today, PDP Meluan chairman Dato Rolland Duat Jubin said that previously, only around 500 members would attend.
Rolland, who is also Meluan assemblyman, said this year’s turnout was the largest recorded since he became an elected representative.
“This is the first time for me—since I became an elected representative—that I’ve witnessed such a large turnout.
“Previous ones only had about 500, more or less, but for this year, we reached an attendance of 1,700. It is a significant moment with encouraging results,” he said, in which a video recording of his doorstep interview was made available to DayakDaily.
He said the numbers also show a united front and support within the party’s divisional level, which translates to support for the party itself and GPS, in which PDP is a component party. — DayakDaily
