German sees strong investment potential in Sarawak’s AI, energy, semiconductor sectors

KUCHING, May 8: Germany has expressed strong confidence in Sarawak’s growing potential as a strategic investment hub, particularly in the areas of energy transition, artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors and infrastructure development.

German Ambassador to Malaysia, H.E. Silke Riecken-Daerr, said the delegation was honoured to meet Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at his office in the Satria Pertiwi Complex here on Thursday (May 7).

She said the visit was aimed at gaining deeper insight into Sarawak’s economic ecosystem while exploring promising investment and collaboration opportunities for German companies.

According to Silke, the delegation comprised nearly 20 German companies currently participating in programmes and engagements with various stakeholders in Sarawak.

“Among the key areas discussed were energy transition, artificial intelligence, semiconductors and infrastructure projects, which are among Sarawak’s strategic priorities,” she said as per reported Information Department (Japen) Sarawak.

She noted that German companies possess extensive expertise and technological strengths that could help accelerate Sarawak’s economic growth and development.

Silke also commended Sarawak’s infrastructure and its conducive environment for nurturing startup companies, particularly in technology and innovation-driven sectors.

She further expressed hopes of returning to Sarawak in the future with more German companies and startups to explore new partnerships and investment opportunities.

Beyond Kuching, the delegation is also keen to visit major towns such as Bintulu while experiencing Sarawak’s rich biodiversity and unique natural attractions.

Also present during the courtesy call were Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, Sarawak Financial Secretary Dato Sri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar, and executive director of the Malaysian-German Chamber Hannes Richard Otto Farlock. — DayakDaily
