KUCHING, April 18: The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Convention 2026 will be held tomorrow (April 19) at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), bringing together party leaders, delegates and participants under the theme “PCDS 2030: Vision to Reality”.
According to the tentative programme, registration of participants will begin as early as 7am, followed by the arrival of delegates for the convention.
At 9am, Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who is also GPS chairman, is scheduled to arrive and officiate the event.
The convention will open with a welcoming speech by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who is also the organising chairman of GPS Convention 2026.
This will be followed by speeches from the presidents of GPS component parties — Dato Sri Tiong King Sing (Progressive Democratic Party, PDP), Dato Sri John Sikie Tayai (Parti Rakyat Sarawak, PRS), and Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian (Sarawak United Peoples’ Party, SUPP).
Abang Johari, who is also the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) president, will then deliver the keynote address in his capacity as GPS chairman, before officiating the convention.
In the afternoon, a strategic sharing session will be held from 2pm to 4pm, featuring presentations on key policy areas and development progress under the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali will present on Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) from 2pm to 3pm.
This will be followed by a session by Datuk Amar Jaul Samion from 3pm to 4pm, focusing on the achievements of PCDS 2030.
The convention will conclude with a closing ceremony featuring a closing address by Abang Johari, followed by a dinner.
Meanwhile, GPS secretary-general Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi said preparations for the convention were in full swing following his on-site inspection of the rehearsal at BCCK.

“What is important is that every aspect is given attention so that this convention can be conducted in an orderly, neat and spirited atmosphere.
“I truly appreciate the commitment of all committees, personnel and parties involved who have worked tirelessly in the preparations.
“I am confident that with the cooperation and dedication of everyone, the GPS Convention will be successfully held,” he wrote.
Nanta added that the convention would serve as an important platform to further strengthen the coalition’s unity and struggle for Sarawak. — DayakDaily
