KUCHING (Feb 6): Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Youth is preparing a roadshow to bring government initiatives closer to the grassroots ahead of the state election expected this year, said Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth Wing chief Datuk Martin Ben.
Martin, who is also the State Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodity, and Regional Development, said the initiative involves collaboration among GPS component parties – PBB, Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).
“Many topics were discussed at the GPS Youth meeting, which includes PBB, SUPP, PRS, and PDP, on how we can collectively engage with the grassroots and explain government initiatives to the people.
“We also discussed upcoming programmes, and we may soon organise a joint GPS roadshow to take these initiatives across the state. This is still in the planning stage, including fundraising.
“At the same time, we welcomed the new youth chiefs for the 2025–2027 term – PRS recently held their convention, SUPP last year, PBB last year, and PDP soon.
“We shared issues, but mostly we need to explain government development initiatives, especially in rural areas,” he told reporters after a GPS Youth meeting at the PBB headquarters here.
Martin added that the meeting also touched on the upcoming election but stressed that the Youth Wing would follow the guidance of GPS leadership.
“Once it is set, if we face a state election this year, I believe the Youth movement will play a role in helping GPS win all seats,” he said.
On the readiness of the election machinery, Martin said that from PBB’s perspective, they are always on the ground running programmes to support people’s representatives in their constituencies.
“I believe the other component parties – PRS, SUPP, and PDP – are the same. While it may not be fully publicised, we are consistently present on the ground,” he added.
